Lindy Hop II
The Ultimate Intermediate Lindy Hop Course
Thursdays,  September 10th - October 22nd,  2009,  7:00-8:00pm
7-Week Course

Learn new moves and techniques to speed up your Lindy Hop, including Syncopated Triples, Charleston Swing-Outs & Circles, and Single-Time Lindy Hop.  Learn Side-To-Side Charleston, Savoy Kicks, Hand-To-Hand Charleston, and Star Kicks, plus transition moves from Basic Charleston to all of the above and back!  Learn new Swing Out Variations, including the Basket Whip, the Tuck & Double Turn, and the Double Outside Turn.  Learn Tandem Charleston and variations including basic Front-to-Back, Pushout, Kick to Side, Ladies Turn, Turnarounds, and Leapfrogs, plus Tandem entry & exit moves including the exciting Lawnmower!  Learn a cool Lift/Jump plus basic lifting/jumping technique.  Learn Traveling Charleston and variations.  We'll cover Lindy Hop & Charleston style, syncopation, turning technique, partnering, and connection.  We'll cover connecting the dance with the music, plus give you individualized tips for improving your overall dancing!  Those completing this course will qualify to learn our choreographed intermediate-level Lindy Hop routines!  Dance Team members who complete this course will qualify to advance to higher-level dance teams.  See why we call this the ultimate intermediate Lindy Hop course!

PREREQUISITESLindy Hop I (7-Week Course) -or- Equivalent.  You've taken hours of Lindy Hop classes and are proficient dancing the fundamental Lindy Hop moves with a partner on the social dance floor.  Ten moves you should already know include Swing Out from Open Position, Swing Out from Closed Position, Lindy Circle, Side-by-Side Charleston, Swing Out Variations (Outside Turn, Inside Turn, Free Turn or Sushi), Texas Tommy, Texas Tommy with a Stop, and Mini Dip.  If you can't dance the above ten moves, then take Lindy Hop I instead, or talk to the instructors.  If it's just a couple or three of the above moves that you don't know or haven't yet mastered, the instructors might be able to schedule a private lesson for you beforehand, or they might recommend that you take Lindy Hop I & Lindy Hop II simultaneously.  Instructors reserve the right to move any registered Lindy Hop II student to the Lindy Hop I classes instead.

Comprehensive Beginning Lindy Hop Course

7-Week Course

Experience Tampa Bay's most comprehensive introductory Lindy Hop course ever!  Learn to Swing Out from both the Open & Closed positions.  Learn Swing-Out variations, including the Outside Turn, Inside Turn, and Free Turn.  Learn the Lindy Circle, the Texas Tommy, and the Texas Tommy with a Stop.  Learn Partner Charleston and how to dance it well, incorporating not just your legs, but your arms and body into the dance.  Learn about syncopated moves, and how to dance the Mini Dip.  We'll teach you Lindy Hop footwork, armwork, partnering, and styling, and give you a solid foundation for advancing to higher-level Lindy Hop.  We'll even show you to mix Lindy Hop with East-Coast Swing!  Dancers who complete this course will qualify to be on a Level I dance team, will be ready to learn the Swing Rueda group dance, and will be ready to advance to Lindy Hop II!

Lindy Hop Made Easy!  You've seen it at swing dances across Tampa Bay, and now it's your turn to learn Lindy Hop, the original swing dance!  Our innovative teaching methods (no math or counting required!) will have you moving to the Lindy Hop in no time!  Whether you're new to Lindy Hop or have taken several classes, try this one out -- we know you'll like it!

What Is Lindy Hop?  Lindy Hop is a showy, playful, energetic, and fun dance that originated in the late 1920's, but has surged in worldwide popularity over the last two decades.  It can be danced at any speed, from slow & sexy to fast-paced & super-charged!  It's also a highly versatile dance, a great one to know for just about any occasion.  Whether the music is classic or modern, people Lindy Hop to anything ranging from jazz, swing, and blues; to jump, neoswing, rock&roll, r&b, funk, and disco; to pop, techno, and hip hop.

PREREQUISITES:  Prior swing dancing and partner dancing experience is helpful, but not required.  If you've never swing-danced before, it's recommended that you take some of our free swing-dance classes (held at the start of each event) beforehand.

Be part of an exciting team of swing dancers!  Learn to perform, by turning your Lindy Hop into an impressive group performance routine!  Learn advanced Swing Rueda moves and group formations.  Learn useful performance techniques and principles.  Improve your dancing skills.  Most of all, have fun doing what you like to do best -- dancing!  Upon completion of this 7-week series, you will perform with the team at a popular public event!

PARTNERSNo partner is needed.  People are welcome to sign up either with or without a partner.  To maximize learning, all participants will be required to rotate and to dance with a variety of partners.  We will strive to register a fairly even balance of leaders and followers.

WHEN TO ARRIVE:  All classes and practice sessions start and finish promptly at the scheduled time.  Please arrive early for each class, and 15-20 minutes early for the first class.  This will give you time to check in and warm up prior to the class, and will ensure that you don't miss the important material that starts each class.

WHAT TO BRING:  Please bring or wear dance shoes, comfortable clothes, and bottled water.
