The last couple of weekends brought some major concerts to the Tampa Bay area. The Jive Aces from the UK and local band Rocket 88 played a free swing-fest in Clearwater last Saturday. (Thanks to Debbie and Dave for sending in that concert's info.) Then there were the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, who played at Jannus Landing a couple of Sundays ago, and Royal Crown Revue, who appeared in Tampa a couple of weeks before that. In the aftermath of the above storm, this weekend brings calmer seas, with Dan Electro and the Silvertones playing the Sugar Palm on Friday. For those who don't like it calm, check out the section below on how you can swing seven nights a week! We went last Thursday (Nov 6) and were delighted with all the room to move around. The band, as usual, did a fine job. The floor is half wood and half ceramic tile, and about 2/3 the size of the Sugar Palm, but there is some smoke. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SWINGERHEAD RETURNS TO ORLANDO AREA Noa Korn writes: Deep from the jungles of Hawaii, a message from those kooky cats and kitten on their Mondo Exotica Tour ... SWINGERHEAD. Aloha Swingsters, Thank you for voting us Best Lounge and Swing Band and naming "She Could be a Spy" CD of the Year! We can't wait to swing with you again. Some December Gigs: (Visit www.swingerhead.com or call 407-897-1249 for a full list.) Atlantic Dance at Disney's Boardwalk Resort: Dec 13-14,20-21,31 Rat Pack's on the Avenue in Orlando: Dec 4-5,10-12,25-26 Ozio's in Melbourne: Dec 2,9,16 & 30 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SOME FACTS ON THE CASINO, LIQUOR, AND AGE Dave Hundley from the State Theatre and Focus Magazine writes: Thought I would point out a few things, not really important but FYI. Any bar or nightclub in the State of FL can allow all ages in the venue. Those that don't only do so on their own policy. No law says it must be so. We are all ages all the time and we have a liquor license. The Gulfport Casino, who are friends of mine and I also think it's a cool place, is not really non-commercial. They are a for-profit company that runs the building for the city of Gulfport. They are required to present some nights for the community, and the rest are for making money. Now, there's nothing wrong with that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JET SET SIX CD Jet Set Six writes: Hey you kooky kids! I just wanted to tell ya that Jet Set Six's first CD is now available in stores all over the USA! The CD, entitled Jet Set Six "Livin' it Up" will be in bigger record stores (Tower, Virgin, HMV, Borders, Peaches, etc) everywhere. I'm sure you can have any store order it. (We're on Mutiny records, distributed by ADA and Sire.) I am VERY happy with how the CD sounds and looks, so check it out if you can! Take care! --W.
