Memories from Friends
Photos of Gilbert and Friends:
It all started with "Would you like to dance?". Those were the very
first words he said to me in a dance in Kuwait. Gilbert gave me back the joy
of dance. I will be forever grateful. I will never forget Gilbert nor will
anyone who has ever met him. I will always remember Gilbert for his smile,
care and the generosity of his heart. He was fearless. This world was too
small for you. Your love for life will not be forgotten. Gilbert, thank-you
for being a part of my life. I am honored and blessed to have known you. I
know you are dancing the night away. Save me a dance. When I see you
next... I am the one who will be asking "Would you like to dance?"

I met Gilbert when he was stationed in Kuwait supporting the Operation
Enduring Freedom. He asked if I would schedule classes in order for him to
give FREE dance lessons to the other soldiers here at Camp Doha. He had
more than 30 soldiers sign up for his classes. He taught them well (even
in combat boots). His energy levels high, positive and outgoing, he gave
100% of himself in everything that he did. I will truly miss him here at Camp Doha.

I first met Gilbert five years ago at the Sugar Palm
and enjoyed his social friendship always. His individual
artistic and gymnastic dance routines were a joy to watch.
As with others I too will miss him.

Gilbert was an avid dancer and a friend to all in Tampa Bay's
swing community. He brought an unequaled level of energy and enthusiasm
to the dance floor, and was always eager to share the dance with newcomers.
He will be missed. --Sam (April 2003)
Gilbert was one of the first dancers I remember seeing
at my first swing dance. He stood out in his cap, bowtie,
and suspenders, not to mention his exuberant energy, charm,
and fun personality.  --Rachel (April 2003)
